Electric Day 51: More Lights!

  These are such cute little lights!  Don't mind the hole, I'm sure they'll fix that, it was where the wire had been coming out from before the lights were put in.  Everything is also a lot brighter than I had assumed.

  The hole in the middle of the gaming area finally has some wires.  There will be an outlet there so we can have a fancy table.  There will be a flat screen TV so D&D maps can be shown easily and we won't have to have an extension cord running along the floor.

 My craft room now has power!  It is probably because the walls in my room are a different material than the ones in Bill's room, but my lights are so much louder!  I hope the addition of tables and sewing machines will help to dampen the sound because right now it is way too loud for me to spend much time in there.  I also plan to be watching something on YouTube or Netflix while I'm working, so hopefully that will also help.  Talking with Bill in there showed me that the buzzing is fairly easy to drown out.

Remodel Day 50: Carpet Time

  My house was party central again.  Don't you wish you were here too?

  The railings are in, so now our stairs are safe.  You can also see that they have installed the carpeting.  Bill figured they would do this near the end of the project because it is harder to keep carpet clean when doing construction work.

  They are staining the shelves.  It's not a huge difference, but I like the stained color more than the raw color.  I'm hoping the plastic holds and they don't get stain all over the carpet.

  We found this little wooden disk and wasn't sure what it was.  There it is!  This is a really good idea.  I feel like I might have picked out a different shape of post, but I like this well enough that I don't feel the need to say anything.  I could also just be remembering wrong.
  They have worked on my doors, so they don't have such a wide V opening when closed, but it still has a gap.  They still haven't put the stoppers on, so they can still pull them off to work on them.
  You can also feel the uneven floor sections under the carpeting.  The people who first came in and cut up the slab did a good job of leveling and making it smooth.  The people who came in after to cover the plumbing did not do as good of a job and it's a lot less even and flat.  Hopefully no one will really notice when just casually walking around.

Light Stuff Day 49: Also Some Woodwork Too

  These are the hardware pieces that will help to hold the banister.  Look how cute and fancy they are.

  It's coming together!  Bill also thinks that this is what they got the red mahogany stain for since we both like darker wood colors.  I don't remember picking out something this fancy, but I have no reason to think they ordered anything other than what I picked out.

  I was worried that the workshop lighting would be big and clunky and not worth the extra light when I could have the sleek circular lights.  Turns out they are a lot more compact and clean looking than I was picturing.  I'm really glad they look this way.  Bill loves how much light they are giving off when on.  It is quite blinding.

  More pictures of white/clear things in front of a white background.  This is the light fixture above the sink in the bathroom.  I liked how the glass had waves that made it look like water.  It is a bit easier to see with the image enlarged, and even easier to see in person.

  This is a preview of the railing for the banister.  It's pretty funny because without meaning to, I pretty much just picked out what was already there.  This might be a touch larger, but it is the same shape.  It's good to know I like it.

  Bill had talked to the design guys about getting a special light switch.  For some reason they had started installing regular light switches, but he talked with them and the new ones got installed today.  These are dimmer switches and also smart switches.  This means that they can connect to our Google Home and we can tell the house to turn on or off the lights.  Some of them are also multi-tasking switches.  They can pop it off the base and it can act as a remote.  Does this mean there is a good chance we will lose some of them?  Most likely.
  This section was also interesting because to the left, about two feet away is another three way switch; and to the right, by about foot is another outlet.  I don't mind more outlets because it means I can leave some things plugged in.  Bill asked about this since it was looking like another three way switch for one light.  The guy also didn't know why it was rigged up that way and instead we now have two switches and an outlet.  Still just for one light.

  I have not finished with the hat pattern because I was getting it all typed up and decided that I wasn't completely happy with the newer crown either.  I reworked it again and I think I finally have something I like.  This means that I will have to do some math for how much yarn you need because it needs a bit less than the first crown, but needs a lot more than the second one.  I know it would be easier to re-knit the hats, but I don't think I have enough of the right weight of yarn to actually do that, especially since the larger hats are the ones that need more yardage.  I've also found that people can use different lengths of yarn even if they are on gauge, which is a bit odd, but it happens.

Lighting Day 48: It's Bright Down There

  I don't know what Tank is going to do once he loses his plastic wall.  He likes running out from under it and has even tried to play attack people through the plastic when he sees their shadow.  At least he has with me.  He's successfully startled me many times.

   Here is a sneak peak of the stair post.  This might also be getting stained because they look very light in color.  Though it would be okay if it didn't, it's a nice blonde color.

  They are building out the sides of the stairs too.  We will be getting railing going all the way down and this will give them something to put that on.  I'm not sure if the green drywall looking stuff is different than the purple or the white.

  Another row is up!  No board in this one though.  I know we mentioned that we were going to be putting heavy board games on these and they will probably hold up, but it seems so thin of a support system.

  There are more lights installed.  It is so bright down there.  I still wish I had known how bright these were because this is all I really need for my craft room.  I currently don't do anything small and delicate enough to need more.  But it would be more time and money to have them put four circular lights in since it's wired for the two workshop lights.  It will also mean I will have more lighting in case I decide to try new crafts that will need as much lighting as I can get.

Remodel Day 47: The Hearth is Looking Good

  It was party central at my house again.  No wonder there were so many loud sounds coming from down there. 

  The hearth is looking so cool.  They are working with new bricks, but they match so well.  Bill and I both can't remember what we picked for the top, but I'm sure that it will also look really good.

  The first shelf is also up.  It looked a bit high, but we tested it with a book, and it will fit gaming books.  Bill isn't sure about the brass screws, but I think they look kind of neat and will probably get blocked from view by books and board games anyway.  There will be four more like it going up.  The shelf itself hasn't been secured in place.  There is a can of wood stain and we are wondering if they are going to stain them before they go up.  They might also just be waiting until the wall has been painted.
  It was mentioned in an email, but the cabinet in the bathroom is fitting in the space less and less as we go on.  The swinging door now rubs against the wall before it hits the tub and the drawer on that same side needs to be pushed slightly to the right to get it to clear the wall.  The swinging door on the far right is starting to rub on the wall as well.  At some point, we will send another email if it doesn't get fixed.

Tub Day 46: She's No Longer In The Driveway

  The tub is now installed.  It is no longer in the driveway getting rained on.  I'm not totally sure how I feel about it.  I had first wanted a built in so there is more fancy area and more space to put things like candles onto.  It also has a thicker wall than I had thought from the pictures.  It is what we picked and it will hold water and Bill will be able to fit all of himself into it, so those were the things we wanted.

  This is something that Bill says will bother him.  We can make it so that the things that go on that side are the things we don't use often, so we won't be opening it much.  It is also a big opening on the inside, so we could reach the things in this section from the center door.  It doesn't bother me, but I'm also saying that without trying to pull anything out from that door, so it might bug me later.

  I'm not sure it shows in the picture, but I used two different ways of decreasing the hat crown.  I think the right one is a bit smoother than the left.  I'm almost done with this pattern and I think I will just release it on my Ravelry shop and not have it be tested.  Since I've been using my written pattern to do the other sizes, I have almost been testing as I go.

Holes Day 46: Where Walls Get New Holes

  I got to hear an interesting conversation while making and eating lunch.  The worker was probably on the phone with Dave, but he was saying that the wall people walled in something that the plumber needed behind the wet-bar.  He also mentioned that he was going to have to cut a fairly large hole because he only knew vaguely where it was.  Bill and I had been wondering when they were going to get back to the water shut-off.  Kind of important to be able to get to.  Now we get to wait and see if they will just wall it back in or add some sort of access door.

  We have a round but also square theme with the hardware.  This also has one of those pull down heads, so it is going to be a lot easier to rinse the sink out.

  It looks like they are getting the plumbing in for the tub.  You can see how they had to cut a hole in the wall of my craft room and also ended up with a small hole in the bathroom too.  You can see the bucket in the other room.

  We also have a toilet in the bathroom!  It looks pretty fancy with all of it's edging.  I don't remember picking one out that fancy, but there is no reason to say that this isn't the one I picked out, it was all a blur.

  The bathroom will have many shelves in the bathroom.  Someday it will be filled with puffy towels and other nice things.  I'll have to make sure not to overfill it so it stays nice looking and doesn't become cluttered like I tend to do.

  We couldn't find a perfect match for the faucet in the bathroom and the wet-bar.  They are in different rooms and I think they match well enough.  I also am glad that I just had them make a recessed sink basin to fit instead of trying to pick out something specific.

  I have a whole window again!  However, since they ran out of cement bricks before it started raining a bunch, there was a minor landslide into the open area.  The can of roof repair ended up out near this, so I'm guessing that is what it is being used for.  There is also a screen in the other room and that is exciting.  I don't know how much air flow will happen, since it will be closed in at the top, but we shall see.
