A Whole Lot of Day 13: So Many Things Happened

  I was curious if all the sounds from the basement meant that the egress window was also being carved out.  It was really funny to look out the window and see the insulation gently wafting in the breeze.

  I think this was to help with dust.  Not long after they started jackhammering again one of the workers came up and got our attention.  He asked if the central air was on and if we could turn it off so dust doesn't get circulated throughout the whole house.  I had actually just thought of that and turned it off, but it was still really nice.

  They did the trenching we were wondering about.  It was pretty intense.  The whole house was vibrating.  I could even feel it two floors up, but it was really odd feeling in the kitchen.  It's not every day that your feet vibrate when you are making lunch.
  We also got to go a few hours without water today.  It wasn't too bad at first, but they needed to get something, so the time without running water was longer than first anticipated.  It all worked out in the end though.

  This is a giant mess, but it needed to have been done.  They still have not carved out the egress window.  When looking at the wall and the actual backer for it, it looks a lot bigger than I was first picturing.  It will be interesting to see how it all looks once they are done with it.  I'm sure it will look cool and let in lots of light.
  Bill closed the door around 8AM this morning and it was a good idea.  When the workers knocked on the door Tank growled and ran at the bedroom door.  It's so strange how he is thrown off every morning by the people showing up, even though if the same people were just coming over to hang out he would be loving it.  Though once the scary sounds happen he just curls up and takes a nap or two.  He eats fine and doesn't hide, even when the whole house is loud and vibrating.  I wish I could ask him about how he feels about the whole thing.  I think it would be really interesting.
  I'm questioning my chart now.  I have the decreases on the outside of the repeats, near the spine increases.  It looks really cool at the point of the color change, but I'm not sure if I will like that same effect on the bottom, or if I want it to just look more like smooth ripples.  I can have people finish on a row near the end of the chart to make that happen.  So instead of ending after you finish the chart, you will finish on row 30 out of 36.  I'm pretty far from being totally done, so I will see how I feel once I get there, I still have to decide if I'm switching back to the first color too.  So many things to mull over.

Framing Day 12: I'm Glad They Aren't Outside

    All we heard most of the day was a lot of hammering sounds, well, that and the wind.  It was so windy out there today.  We are also getting to the point where things will slow down because inspectors will need to come out to check on each finished step before we can move onto the next one.  I was wondering how the whole thing was going to take so long since they seem pretty far, but that is where the time comes from.

  Bill was wondering if it wasn't the door that was the problem, but the floor.  It does look like the floor is to blame.  Not sure why it would be doing that.
  Tank has been starting to get into the swing of being locked in a room for most of the day.  He is good about letting me know when he needs to go out, but he did growl and charge downstairs yesterday.  I had to go run after him to bring him back and he was downstairs this morning.  Once we get closed in he has been getting better about it.

  It is getting harder and harder to spread out.  The one thing I wanted to have on this that I don't see on most feather and fan shawl patterns is the feather and fan slowly growing on the increase edges.  Most just have a plain solid area until there is enough to add another repeat.  I always think that looks a bit odd, so I worked out a way to have it slowly growing as the outer sections grow.  I'm hoping it will look good but it will be hard to totally tell until we get it off the needles and spread out.  I'm also wondering if I want to go back to the first color for the garter section on the bottom or not.

Framing Day 11: Where I Play Animal Crossing Most of the Day

  They finished framing out the small window.  I feel like progress pictures for a bit are going to be slow looking.  It is only two or three guys working and what they are doing now is more fiddly and takes longer to show any progress.

  Bill said he didn't mention about how we are confused about the status of the egress window, but I did hear the two guys talking about the plans.  One asked if the copies they had were the latest ones and if the guy knew if any changes had been made.  It looks like they have now left enough room for the opening of the egress window.
  I'm still not sure when the opening for it is getting cut out but I hope someone does.  That has been in the plans from the start, so it's not like we added it after the fact.

  I didn't notice before the markings before, but these were probably made when the house was first constructed.  I'm not sure why, but I find them to be neat.
  I have made it through all of one repeat of my chart pattern.  However, I also got distracted by playing the new Animal Crossing game.  They give you crafting and have two events going on right now.  Some of my island is a bit messed up because my Switch was set to May 9 and for some reason didn't sync with the internet to fix the day.  I know it confirmed the day with me at one point, but I've lost track of days and didn't notice for a while.  I was tempted to start over, but I like the fruit I got as a starter and I like the neighbors I have.  I don't know how many starting neighbor options there are, but I thought it might take forever to get the exact same combo as I did before.  A few of my achievements will be odd, like how I caught 5 bugs in May, but 10 in April.  I still do wish I had noticed sooner, but I also might not have gotten this combo on my island.  I also now have some of the hard to get event items, so there would be no way to transfer those, since it's saved on my character.

Framing Day 10: I'm Confused.

  They have started to work on the framing for the outer walls.  We feel like they still have more things to get done before they do this.  There is still a bunch of old plumbing that needs to be taken out, plumbing that needs to be moved, and they need to cut out to widen the other window.  Bill says he is going to talk to them about it.

  Most of the photos from now on will be inside stuff.  Since they have done everything to fix the foundation, there isn't much to do out there for a bit.  They will still need to work on my egress window and fill in around it, but we don't know when that will happen.

  It is also interesting how there is a board sandwich on the top.  We didn't check all of them, but the boards by the other window aren't nailed in, so they might just be spacing them for later and will adjust if needed before nailing them on.  Right now they are just on either side of the current window, which is not the four feet it needs.  They might also plan on cutting out the window area.
  I was super confident in my chart the other day, but I actually found a mistake.  I hadn't counted the actual stitches that I had that row using and I only had 12 stitches being accounted for when I had 13 stitches to use.  It was something easy to fix, and I'm glad I caught it now.

Remodel Day 9: Some Stuff Happened

  There was only one guy working today.  He got in fairly late compared to the people who had worked the past days.  He brought in some wood and I'm not sure what else he did, probably prepping and checking things before the next phase can start.

  I've been pretty busy.  I got a few more things listed on my Etsy shop that I hadn't before.  I also got a bit of knitting done.  I keep getting distracted or I would be farther along in the pattern.  I'm far enough along that I think the chart is good to go.  I will still need to type it up at some point for the finished pattern.  It is also getting a bit tight and I might need a longer needle before this is done.

Foundation Day 8: The Beep-Beeps Are Back

  Phil said the inside and outside work by this people will be done today.  He said we didn't have drainage on all sides of our basement before, but now we do.  They are putting another sump pump in, so now we have two.  They will be coming back later to regrade the back and add seed and make it all pretty.  The said that after one of their other jobs a neighbor asked if they had had a landscaper come out, so it sounds like they really will make it pretty good looking.

  Mitch (the BobCat driver) and Bill bonded some more over home brewing and his Trans Am.  I feel like they could be pals in their off time.  Tank will be glad that the BobCat is going away because he didn't like the beeping it made when in reverse.

  The cement they use takes about 48 hours to finish curing.  This is good timing because the next set of people won't be out until Monday.  They did a really good job at smoothing it out, but I've also never worked with cement before, so it might be pretty easy to work with.

  I don't think they know how motes work.  You don't usually fill them with dirt, but I'll trust them on this manner.  Bill was mentioning that he had been thinking of re-landscaping this side of the front of our house anyway.  I'm hoping to be able to get a rosemary bush in there somewhere.

  Phill talked about how if they had been able to get someone out from the other team, that he could have had his people put in the U of my egress window.  It seems that the right people hadn't been able to coordinate quickly enough, so it's still sitting in our driveway.

  I feel kinda silly.  I had listed some of these on my Etsy shop and got a sale!  I had thought that I had condensed all my Etsy shop items in one bin, but when I looked in there I couldn't find the blue beaded ones.  I looked for a while and in all the places it might have been in, but no luck.  I then had to go into my crafting storage room and get the supplies to make more.  I made another set for her and I hope she doesn't mind that they will look a bit different.
  Though we are stuck inside still, Bill is going to be making bacon wrapped pork chops for our anniversary dinner.  I have his present all finished and ready to give to him.  I also have most of my to-do list done for the day!  Today was pretty good.

Foundation Day 7: Another Pretty Quiet Day

  The cement set over night and they took the supports down.  Our house is supporting itself again and you almost can't see were the crack used to be.  They have the holes patched in the other room and will probably get to these tomorrow.

  They added some gravel and the grey waffle stuff to help with future moisture.  Bill says that they have more trenching to do, since we are moving where the bathroom will be in the basement.  I'm not sure if this group would be in charge of that or another one.

  These are the odd mirrors that are under our basement stairs.  Bill says that it will be amusing if they survive everything and I pointed out that they are doing pretty well so far.  I still don't understand why they are under there, but I'm willing to go with it.  I know Mr Jag would come visit the kitty he saw in them, he would also meow down to talk with "basment kitty" if he couldn't go visit.

  I had thought that they were just doing work inside, but they also painted on some stuff to help seal the house even more.  Not sure why they didn't manage to get that whole section done, but I assume they know what they are doing.

  Since I've been keeping Tank company I've been stuck for large chunks of the day in one room.  Opening the window helps some, but I decided to go for a walk.  Our mail box flag broke so we can't put outgoing mail in there.  I had to mail something, so I just walked to the post office.  It was so nice out and I am really glad I went out.

  Tank is part puppy, so he likes rolling in smells and dirt.  Because of the rain the other day the workers have had mud on their shoes.  Tank has been enjoying the fact that he can roll around in the dirt in the comfort of his own home.  I try and dust him off as best I can before he gives himself a bath.
  The knitting has been going along pretty nicely.  It is also slowing down because I add eight stitches every other row.  I'm hoping that tomorrow will have some better lighting out so I can try and take a picture of where I am.
