Her latest project is to try and learn how to suck her thumb. She ends up with fingers out with either only thumb tucked, or fingers and thumb tucked. She managed to snag it one day with fingers and thumb out. She also kept almost scratching her eye that way, but at least the thumb was in the right spot.
During her last bath she tried to catch some of the drops of water that were coming off the showerhead on her tongue when I was spraying her body. She isn't totally sure about the showerhead but doesn't hate it. I filled her little tub up some water so she could try kicking the water. She didn't do that but did wiggle her toes in it.
When she sleeps over four hours she wakes up super hungry. I joke that she sleeps through her own hunger cues. At one point she was yelling for food, opened her eyes and smiled at me, then went back to yelling. I laughed so hard about that one.
I don't know if it is happening because of something she is doing or not. She was born with more hair than she currently has and I don't know if that is because sometimes babies lose the hair they are born with, or because she keeps petting her own head and has worn off the hair. If she keeps the hair in the back of her head she will have an impressive mullet when the top comes back in.
Week 4:
Both of her eyes can produce tears now. She doesn't make a lot when she cries yet. She has also gotten better at making a very sad face when crying rather than just looking angry.
One night she just wanted to lick my stomach. After she unlatched, her head slid down near my stomach and she licked it a few times, so I thought she wanted to keep eating. When I offered her some food she made a disgusted face and pulled away. I put her head back to where it was and she licked my stomach a few more times.
During Kat and John's wedding she impressed people with her head control. She also impressed everyone with how well behaved she was during the ceremony and dinner. Though for some reason she didn't want to take a bottle from Bill but would from me.
The day after the wedding when I went to change her diaper she was super smiley. I was just telling her hello and she was smiling when she looked at me. It was so nice and she did it multiple times.
Week 5:
Bill tried to put her into his front carrier. She was fine until he tried to close it. She was screaming like we were trying to take off a limb. If Bill held the back panel she was mostly okay with it. We worried that maybe she wasn't big enough, but she could get her legs in the right position during tummy time. We will try again some other time.
I had my six week check up at the doctor. Miss Spud was having a fussy day and was yelling unless I was holding and rocking her. Dr Hibshman walked in, heard her yelling and scooped her up. She instantly calmed down and was very sweet. I held her during my exam, but Dr Hibshman took her again so I could get dressed in peace. She told me that she was distracted by how cute Miss Spud was and that she wanted to take her home.
I went to check on her during one of her naps and she had her thumb in her mouth. She had been working so hard on that skill. It's not something that happens all the time yet.
She likes putting her feet on the rails of her crib, but doesn't like it when her feet can touch the mesh of her bassinet.
Week 6:
She was being really fussy unless she was being held again. I needed to get some stuff done, so I decided to try my front carrying harness. She was not having it when I was trying to put her in, but it probably didn't help that I was also trying to figure it out. Once I got her in and her legs in the right position she fell asleep.
She is just such a happy girl. She will smile so often, even in her sleep.
It's funny to hear how loudly she chews on her hands and arms. She also loudly grunts in mild frustration while doing it. It's less convenient when I'm trying to sleep, but I'm glad she not giving up on learning a new skill.
Week 7:
It seems she is growing and learning so fast. She is pretty consistently smiley when she looks at us and feels fine. It's a whole other story if she is hungry or we are changing her diaper.
She keeps having some consistency issues with her thumb, but is getting better at getting her hand into her mouth. There is a lot less flailing and hoping for the best.
Recently she has started to make baby sounds back to us. She also watches our mouths and tries to mimic the shapes. We aren't quite to the babbling stage, but I can see it coming.
She has been getting closer to putting together the steps on how to crawl. She puts her booty into the air with her knees under her, but she can't lift herself with her arms yet. She will move her knees around though. Her head control still needs work before she can actually start working on crawling, but she is bobbling less and less each week.
One night she was having a lot of fun watching the mobile. She wanted it to be moving in some way, spinning or swinging. If she looked over at me and I wasn't also watching it she would get upset.
Her poop is starting to get so stinky. We aren't feeding her anything different, other than what I eat. She is also between diaper sizes. She has blowouts on the top in the size 0/NB and blowouts on the sides in the size 1s.
She has been working towards making her movements more intentional. She still has many instances of her limbs having a mind of their own and just flailing about. I moved her high contrast ball to one of the higher up tabs and moved a wooden bell/clacker to the lower one. Now she can look at her ball and kick the wooden piece to hear the bell. I think she has been having fun with that.
Week 8:
She has officially experienced half to two thirds of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. One of our friends has a two day showing at a bar near us. We have been doing it for two years. It is a small venue, but a good time. We had promised to help last year and didn't want to completely bail because of Miss Spud. Bill set up the movie to play and we decided to stay based on how she was feeling. We stayed for about half or close to two thirds of the show before she started rubbing her eyes and had gone through all the diapers we had brought. The only time she fussed was when we got her headphones on her. Otherwise she smiled for people and just looked around.
Before one feeding I picked her up out of her crib. She was yelling and when I said 'neh?' to her she opened her eyes and pulled back in surprise. I think I startled her by being there somehow.
She really likes looking out windows. She mostly only gets to look out her bedroom windows, but she will look out the truck windows, and wanted to look out the window at the doctor's office.
She liked the sugary liquid vaccine, but wasn't a fan of the two shots she got. She didn't cry long because she got a snuggle from her dad. That evening she was fussy, but that is to be expected. She measured in at: 1'10.5" tall, 9lb 4oz, and had a 14.7" head. The doctor said that was on the low end of the weight gain they were hoping to see.
The next day she woke up smiling a lot. She has even started cooing and is starting to baby babble some more. Because she keeps saying a'who I asked her if I should make her into an owl for Halloween.
She likes watching the TV. Bill read somewhere that it isn't good for her, but she is determined. She will even stare at the TV when it isn't on.
